Colônia Witmarsum was created by Mennonite immigrants who arrived in Santa Catarina in 1930, the but only in 1951 bought the old farm Cancela in Palmeira, and turned it into a place to live, work, practice religion and keeping alive the traditions of German culture, from the language to the typical cuisine (spätzli, kassler, einsbein, sausages).
