Curitiba - Paraná - Brazil

The RCE-CRIE-Curitiba-Paraná - "Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (RCE)" is linked to the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). RCE-Curitiba was the first to be approved and installed in Latin America in 2007, formed by a network of institutions such as UTFPR, UFPR, PUCPR, ISAE, Sistema FIEP among others.

A network of RCEs worldwide was built to achieve the goals of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD 2005-2014). RCEs are a tool for transformation to a more sustainable society, combining education and action for sustainable development. RCEs arededicated to building their capacities to plan and implement collaborative ESD projects critical for establishing a global learning space.

The United Nations University (UNU) has been implementing the Programme on Education for Sustainable Development through the UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) since 2003 to promote the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, 2005-2014) as well as to contribute to the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD. Since this time, UNU has been advancing ESD through Regional Centres of Expertise (RCEs) on a global scale as a unique contribution to multi-stakeholder learning and networking. At present, there are 146 RCEs around the world including 21 in the Americas.
